The first day of Spring

The first day of spring (21st Mar) we celebrate by burning or drowning an effigy of Marzanna. It's a large figure of a woman made from straw, rags and bits of clothing and represents the dark days of winter which we want to say goodbay.
We also made our own effigy and walked with it in the countryside. We put it into the pond but we didn't really drown it because of ecology. Instead our Marzanna landed in the dustbin.
